EXT. BALCONY, SATURDAY – EVENING

Having sent my hubby off to an acoustic jam, I sit on the balcony reading a bodice ripper of a novel stopping only to consider the crickets. Listening to the soothing music that only Jiminy’s cousins can create, I notice the air is cooler than it’s been this whole first week back in Mexico.

I’m delighted with the peace, the energy, the quiet and the breeze.

Reflecting, back on this tumultuous week and the chaotic couple of months before this it’s no wonder my back hurts and that I am so very tired. Tea is soothing, reading is a tonic, and now writing is a release.

Through what can only be considered a harrowing two months of packing, storing, moving and general upheaval, it’s so easy to complain. Oh, I have complained and sobbed ~  but in reality big changes bring big upsets but they also bring big rewards and great delight.

This past week we had competing bummer and delightful moments.

Delightful – With relative ease we made it through customs and our friend Wayland’s happy face greeted us at the arrival gate.

Bummer – One week ago today, we returned to our home in Mexico to learn that repairs to our condo weren’t finished and we had no where to stay.

Delightful – We were welcomed with love by so many friends at our local ‘Cheers style’ bar ~ Jardin del Pulpo or Octopus Garden. Aptly named for many businesses under one roof; however, as a gathering place of locals I equate it to the many arms of the Octopus embracing us all, gathering the town folk, whispering, we’re all in this together… it’s OK. Having said that with one quick phone call a friend found us (and our kitty) a hotel about 1/2 hour away.

Bummer – We didn’t wake up in our condo and I had a writing deadline to meet.

Delightful – As I write and sip my coffee, I’m overlooking kids playing on the beach and giggle with my hubby, the air is delightfully warm… life is grand!

Bummer – I fear I’m not going to meet my deadline and hesitate about going exploring, I LOVE to explore new areas.

Delightful – I learned I just won a wee contest with my screenwriting efforts that had me so tickled and pleased with myself that after sharing the news with loved ones inspired me to complete, with vigor, the third rewrite/draft of my latest screenplay.

Bummer – Sitting on the deck, finishing that rewrite, it started to blow rain, I picked up my computer and papers and books – oh how I wish I made two trips – I banged my computer, crashed the hard drive.

Delightful – Panicked I lost that screenplay, I looked to my itouch (Oh how I love my itouch) and sure enough had just sent myself a copy so I had that handy no matter what the outcome of my backup.

Bummer – Checking into our new temporary home at 8:30 pm we learn there’s no gas to the stove, marinated chicken goes in the fridge and oh yum, cottage cheese for dinner.

Delightful – We didn’t go hungry, the view from our new deck with the twinkly lights and Bahia moon illuminating the bay is marvelous. My adventure continues with the LOVE of my life, my buddy, my husband!

Bummer – As if it wasn’t enough for our poor Koko kitty to be moved from Mexico, to Canada, to USA , back to Canada and then to now her second temporary home in Mexico she’s having an operation. On her return check-up to the vet and our explaining how she went into heat on our trip he decided she could be spayed… now. Ultimately good, but one more thing in an already crazy week, but now it’s done.

Delightful – The light show off our balcony, thunder and lightning. I’ve never seen such a show, I’m told two inches of rain fell in half an hour.

Bummer that was diverted by the light show that took my mind off the meltdown I just had  ~ We won’t get back into our condo for at least another week, my kitty needed to stay in the vet hospital over night and the stove still doesn’t work.

Delightful – Realizing we had packed an electric frying pan from Canada and it is in a box in the van! 24 hour marinated chicken and portobello mushrooms, Yummmmm!

Bummer – No kitty curling up to us in bed.

Delightful – Getting the kitty back, she was mad at us and tired but in good shape.

Bummer – Learning that the data couldn’t be recovered from my computer.

Delightful –  Getting my computer back, new hard drive installed. AND restoring my data via Carbonite, an online backup system – it’s going to take awhile but I’m hopeful I’ll recover all.

Bummer – No internet where we’re staying; having to go out to do the restore process – taking so long, will have to wait – and check email. Note to my kids; the stuff I said I’d handle online – sorry, I’ll get to it this week!

Delightful – Our nephew and niece just brought a new baby into the world. Welcome Natalie!

WONDERFUL – Coming home tonight and having Koko seemingly back to normal, snuggling between Chris and I sharing her love.

AWESOME –  Appreciating that I have a roof over my head, lots of great food to eat, living in a music mecca town and knowing I LOVE and am loved by many.

Night out with our kids before we left – THE BEST!

INSPIRING – Knowing no matter the bummers in life, holding out for the delightful moments and TRUSTING they will come make it all worthwhile.

As my Daddy always said “What doesn’t kill you, makes you strong”!

Lovely – Sipping my tea and resuming my reading with Koko curled up at my side.

Inspire someone today.

Not feeling it? Be Kind, be generous, be LOVE!

  2. Hi Cindy:Didn’t recognize you, it’s been sooooo long! What is happening with you and Chris, have you moved to Mexico? Last time we connected you were living in Steveston. All is well here, getting older, cannot believe we have been in Victoria for 17 yrs. and our condo still looks as gorgeous as the day you finished designing it. Send an e-mail when you have a chance and get us caught up on your life.xo Ethel
