As another Christmas comes to a close, I’m filled with warmth and LOVE for my family and my friends and especially my hubby!

Christmas in Mexico is different, much different than Christmas in Canada. I’ve celebrated the season four times in this country.

The first time was in 1988, in Merida and Isla Mujeres, it was beautiful and hot but I don’t remember much about the festivities as we hung with other tourists, enjoying sun, sand and margaritas.

The second time was in San Jose del Cabo ~ It was 1989 and I was newly single and needed to get away from it all. Everyone worried I’d be lonely, that I’d fall apart. The opposite was true, I fell in love with the simplicity and true meaning of Chrismas. Greatest memory that year was at the town square under a huge wrought iron Christmas tree where tourists and children of the town met together. Tourists in the know brought gifts from their homes, often previously owned, for the children. I had never seen such appreciate for gifts. I didn’t have anything for them but cuddles so they took those with glee. No photos but in my mind I remember it fondly.

The third time was in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, two years ago. Our son and his girlfriend joined us and we shared time creating gift bags for chidren at Philo’s, gifting for the orphanage kids and enjoying beach time, lots of music and much laughter. Our daughter and her hubby joined us a few days later.

This year is my fourth Christmas in Mexico, again in La Cruz. This time I was extremely reticent as our kids were unable to make it down to visit and not only could I not imagine Christmas without them, I felt extremely guilty to be away from them at this special time of year. Thank heaven’s for my sis-in-law who included them in her Christmas festivities! Of course, they have their own mates now so we’re not as important but I always adore the specialness that comes with the magic of Christmas.

Having said that, it is what it is, as they say! I was afraid I would become a bag of mush, tears flowing and feeling sorry for myself but that didn’t happen ~ well, I faltered a wee bit after the skype call on Christmas day… I did wish I could hug and kiss them personally.

Our Christmas in Mexico, this year, proved to be special in it’s own way. We shared fun times with friends. There was much music. There was lots of dancing. There was LOVE, Laughter and happiness.

Of course, what would Christmas be like without kiddies? There were many I’ll share them tomorrow!

I trust your celebrations were happy! What’s everyone doing for New years?
